Greg Laswell Is Taking a Bow

Greg Laswell’s fourth album Take a Bow is uplifting and sublime. He’s said, “Perhaps the biggest difference with this album is that I’m not miserable.” Some of his past work was done throughout the process of him dealing and healing from his divorce from his ex-wife. I’ve been a fan of his since his sophomore album Through Toledo in 2006. He reminds me a lot of one of my favorite artists, Pete Yorn. The first song, “Take Everything” is a great opener. “My Fight (For You)” is a bit darker and seems to be a perfect fit for a spot in the Twilight Saga soundtracks. It could definitely happen since he’s already a favorite among film and TV music supervisors. His songs have been featured on True Blood,Smallville and 90210. He’s also had more than a couple of his tracks on Grey’s Anatomy, including “Off I Go” which was written specifically for the show and appears on Take a Bow.

Laswell is one of those artists that you immediately love or hate. There’s no in between. When I see he’s come out with an album, I just buy the whole thing because I know I’ll love it and it’s worth it. The title track is a lullaby, not much different than taking a nice warm bubble bath. “In Front of Me” is an anthem of closure as well as new beginnings. “Let It Ride” is an absolutely beautiful and healing song. Laswell has also said that he couldn’t be more excited about how Take a Bow has turned out. With the closing track, “Goodbye,” you can really tell that he’s moved on to a new chapter of his life.
