Since 1974 Historic Milwaukee, Inc. (“HMI”) has been dedicated to increasing awareness of and commitment to Milwaukee’s history, architecture, and the preservation of our built environment through education and advocacy. Milwaukee has the fortune to grow economically and culturally by investing resources in building awareness of our unique history, architecture, and the sustainability of our one-of-a-kind built environment. Communities that showcase their unique sense of place, their heritage, diversity, and distinction attract more people. In 2011 HMI shared Milwaukee stories, directly, to over 30,000 people. People, not buildings, make history. HMI works productively and proactively with city officials, developers, businesses, neighborhood groups, other nonprofits, and diverse individuals to promote historic preservation and heritage conservation as economically, environmentally and culturally sustainable development tools.
