Six-time Grammy winner Amy Grant is hitting the road in February 2011 with contemporary Christian music star, Michael W. Smith. Having played keyboards for Amy on her 1982 ‘Age to Age’ tour, Michael says their tour — called 2 Friends — will be like his career coming full-circle. “I’ve always said I wouldn’t be where I am without Amy Grant,” Michael tells Nashville’sTennessean newspaper. “When Amy hired me to play keyboards for her [back then], I never could have anticipated where it would take me. This many years later — to get to tour together again — is just awesome!”
“We will share the stage and participate in each other’s sets,” says Amy. “But no kidding — I will have just as much fun sitting on the side of the stage and watching him!” Considered the ‘Queen of Christian Pop,’ Amy was inducted into the Christian Music Hall of Fame in 2007. She has received 25 Dove Awards from the Gospel Music Association over the course of her career and is the best-selling contemporary Christian singer ever, with over 30 million albums sold worldwide. Her 1982 album, ‘Age to Age’ was the first Christian album to go sell one million copies, topping Billboard’s Christian albums chart for an unprecedented 85 weeks. Her latest album, ‘Somewhere Down the Road’ was released in March of this year.
A three-time Grammy winner and recipient of 40 Dove Awards throughout his platinum-selling career, Michael has scored 29 No. 1 hits, and is considered one of the most influential artists in Contemporary Christian music. His latest album, ‘Wonder’ was released in September.
