M. Ward

Perhaps it’s his rich and seductive voice, equal parts honey and cigarette smoke, Nina Simone and Tom Waits. Or perhaps its the virtuosity of the guitar playing, the kind of finger picking skills more commonly associated with Appalachian folk and delta blues traditions than the indie rock scene which was the first to grasp him to their bosom, but it’s a simple fact that M.Ward is a favorite of almost everyone who’s heard him. It’s no real surprise that the country blues loving Meg White personally invited Matt to open for The White Stripes on their last round of US live shows in 2005.

In 2003 Conor Oberst enrolled Matt as a part of his acoustic “Monsters Of Folk” tours, and then added him as Bright Eyes’ guitarist on the Bruce Springsteen-led leg of 2004’s Vote For Change tour. Last year Matt co-produced the celebrated debut album from Rilo Kiley’s Jenny Lewis and provided vocals for the all star hootenanny that was her cover of The Traveling Wilbury’s “Handle With Care” (in which our young hero took the vocals originally cast by Roy Orbison). In early 2006 he compiled and produced the Tribute To John Fahey album, a homage to the legendary guitarist whose dexterity on the guitar has long been an influence on Matt. Famous fans and exceptional side projects are one thing, but its Matt’s intoxicating, finely crafted albums and stunning live performances for which he is really renowned and loved.

The Watson Twins

Chandra and Leigh, were raised in the rolling hills of Louisville, Kentucky. In 1998, with an atlas and a pick-up truck, they found themselves in Los Angeles playing and recording with notable Silverlake bands (Rilo Kiley, Earlimart, Orphan Train, etc.) From this inspiring time grew the songs of The Watson Twins.

In Fall 2005, The Watson Twins recorded with Jenny Lewis on her first solo record, “Rabbit Fur Coat” (Team Love). Joining the red haired songstress from Tokyo to Berlin, through the US and back again, the girls enchanted each sold out audience with their soaring choruses and angelic sound.
