Here's what you can expect from Carrie:

Rodriguez blossoms at Tin Angel
By Nicole Pensiero

There's a good reason alt-country violinist/vocalist Carrie Rodriguez isn't playing second fiddle - pun intended - to mentor Chip Taylor anymore. As the musically diverse Rodriguez proved at the Tin Angel Friday night, she's more than ready for her own spotlight.

The Austin-bred, Brooklyn-based Rodriguez - backed by a four-member band that included her husband, Spanish saxophonist/keyboard player Javier Vercher - charmed the nearly sold-out crowd with a solid mix of ramped-up rockers and tender ballads.
Alt-country singer-songwriter Laura Cantrell got things off to a nice start with an impressive set of travel-themed covers (from her most recent EP) and a few gently paced originals. But Rodriguez was clearly in a more rocking mood, immediately launching into a spirited version of "Seven Angels on a Bicycle," title track of her 2006 solo debut.

Wearing a vintage-style dress and sporting a fabric flower in her hair, Rodriguez showed off her increasingly impressive vocals - at one point crediting Taylor for encouraging her to begin singing only a few years ago - and unmistakable instrumental talents, moving between guitar and fiddle throughout her hour-long set.
Focusing on songs from her just-released She Ain't Me album, Rodriguez looked and sounded confident and relaxed, offering guitarist Hans Holzen and Vercher several opportunities to solo on their respective instruments.

She paid homage to Taylor with a sultry rendition of his "Big Kiss," and showed off a playful, sexy side with the humorous " '50s French Movie."

While Rodriguez is certainly a capable guitarist, the energy level in the room immediately rose whenever she picked up her fiddle. And it was her blazing fiddle-playing that turned both Bill Monroe's old hit "You Won't Be Satisfied That Way" and her own "Never Gonna Be Your Bride" into foot-tapping hoedowns.
Rodriguez returned for one encore, leaving the audience soothed with her tender Spanish-language rendition of "La Punalada Trapera," originally a 1950s hit for her great-aunt, singer Eva Garza.
