For a few years now, B.B. King has opened his shows with a medical bulletin. So it was again Friday night when the King of the Blues returned to the Riverside Theater. The knees are bad, the back is bad and "lately I can't remember much of anything," King reported. "But I can remember one thing. I'm now 83 years old." At 83, King has cut back to 100 one-nighters a year, down from 250 a couple years ago. That's just an amazing figure. Later in the show, King admitted people have started telling him to go home, but his answer was, "I beg you to put up with me a little while longer, because I'm not ready to go just yet." Putting up with B.B. King didn't seem to be too great a challenge for the Riverside crowd. Indeed, they seemed delighted to simply share oxygen with this most seminal of all blues men.
